Origins
Your Own Story
Characters in Asynchronous RPG are a lot like superheroes. They can do superhuman things and survive a world most others cannot. Each character also has an origin story that explains how you can not only survive the miasma that has leaked into the world but also use it to fuel your power.
Origin Classifications
Below are five different types of super-powered individuals in the world. You can choose one of them or make up your own if none of them fit the backstory you want for your character.
Alien
You are from another world and your alien nature allows you to survive and use miasma. Maybe you came through a rift or perhaps you took the long way through space to get here. Either way, Earth is your home, at least for now.
Magic
Your ability to use miasma to fuel your power comes from a magical source—a powerful artifact, a pact with an otherworldly entity, or hard-won arcane knowledge. Your magic keeps you alive in miasma when other humans would perish.
Known Examples:
Diabolist: You've made a deal with a powerful entity that grants you power in exchange for some kind of service.
Medium: You possess a powerful artifact through which you can access great power using miasma.
Mystic: Through exhaustive study or innate ability you've figured out how to weave miasma into a result you desire.
Mutation
You were born different and your ability to survive and use miasma manifested at birth or some other stage of your life.
Known Examples:
Connate: You were born with your abilities and have always been able to survive in and use miasma
Science
You were changed to be able to survive and use miasma. It may have been through an intentional scientific experiment or an accident.
Known Examples:
Host: You are the host for an alien parasite. The parasite consumes miasma and releases energy you can use to do superhuman things.
Technology
Your ability to survive and use miasma comes from the use of technology. You may be the inventor or just the beneficiary of the technology.
Known Examples:
Power Armor: You rely on technologically advanced gear to keep you safe and convert miasma into powerful results.
Software Hacks: A combination of sophisticated software and chemical reagents can accomplish amazing things. You're living proof.
